1. Reading materials on the internet

The NDL is digitizing its materials, and the digital data is collected in the National Diet Library Digital Collection. Some of them are available on the internet so you can enjoy them using your PC at home.

When you search a material on the National Diet Library Online (NDL Online) and find the following icon in the bibliography or holdings section, it means that the material is available on the internet.

2. Remote photoduplication service

If you know which material contains the article you are looking for, you can make a request for remote photoduplication and receive a photocopy by postal mail.

The NDL provides photoduplication services in accordance with the Copyright Law of Japan. There are cases that we cannot accept requests for photoduplication because of deterioration of the material. For more information, please see the Overseas Request for Copying page.

* Residential maps and electronic materials and audio-visual materials (CDs, DVDs, etc.) are not available for remote photoduplication.

This service is available only to Registered Users.  Registration can also be done on the internet.

The following is how to request photocopies of books, magazines, digital materials, and e-journals.

2-1. Books (Paper, Microfilm)

Search the book in NDL Online and click on the Remote Photoduplication icon to the right side of the holdings.  The icon for remote photoduplication appears only when you login to NDL Online.  By clicking the icon, a web form will open to enter the portion to be copied.  For more details, please see the Help section of NDL Online, 6A-4 Remote photoduplication.
