・WHOSIS（WHO）
（WHO Statistical Information System）は世界保健機構（WHO：World Health Organization）が提供する統計情報システムです。2009年8月27日現在、194カ国の様々な保健関係の統計値を調べることができます。こ こでは、世界各国の2005年度の年齢別（若年・成年）、性別（男性・女性）の喫煙率を調べる方法を説明します。
1) 「Select indicators for all countries 」をクリックします。
2) 喫煙率関係の指標として、以下があります。
・「Prevalence of current tobacco use among adolescents (13-15 years) (%) both sexes」（若年（13-15歳）の喫煙率 男女総計）
・「Prevalence of current tobacco use among adolescents (13-15 years) (%) female」（若年（13-15歳）の喫煙率 女性）
・「Prevalence of current tobacco use among adolescents (13-15 years) (%) male」（若年（13-15歳）の喫煙率 男性）
・「Prevalence of current tobacco use among adults (>=15 years) (%) both sexes」（成年（15歳以上）の喫煙率 男女総計）
・「Prevalence of current tobacco use among adults (>=15 years) (%) female」（成年（15歳以上）の喫煙率 女性）
・「Prevalence of current tobacco use among adults (>=15 years) (%) male」（成年（15歳以上）の喫煙率 男性）
3) 成年の男女総計と男女別の喫煙率を調べるには、「Prevalence of current tobacco use among adults (>=15 years) (%) both sexes」、「Prevalence of current tobacco use among adults (>=15 years) (%) female」、「Prevalence of current tobacco use among adults (>=15 years) (%) male」の左側のチェックボックスにチェックを入れ、「Create table」をクリックします。世界133カ国の成年男女総計、成年女性、成年男性の喫煙率が表示されます。（2009年8月27日現在、2005年度の データ。統計値を知ることができる国の数が133カ国と194カ国よりも少ないのは、喫煙率の統計データが採取できていない国があることによっているようです。）
4) 国や地域を限定したい場合は、「Modify table」をクリックします。例えば、日本、中国、アメリカに限定したい場合は、「Modify table」をクリックして遷移した地域や国を選択する画面で、「Remove all countries」をクリックし、「China」、「Japan」、「United States of America」にチェックを入れて、「Create table」をクリックします。3カ国の成年喫煙率は以下のとおりです。
日本：29.4% （男性：44.3% 女性：14.3%）
中国：31.8％ （男性：59.5％ 女性：3.7％）
アメリカ：23.9％ （男性：26.3％ 女性：21.5％）
3カ国中最も喫煙率の高い中国では男性と女性の間で喫煙率が大きく異なるのに対し、喫煙率の最も低いアメリカでは男性と女性の間にそれほど大きな違いがないことがわかります。
