Statistical Compendia for Learning about Japan
A material which compiles various primary statistics is called a Statistical Compendium. Using the index of a Statistical Compendium, you can find statistics which meet your needs. It is recommended to search a Statistical Compendium first when you do not know where to find the statistics you need. Sources are indicated for each statistic in the Statistical Compendium and sometimes the source has more detailed data.
One of the most comprehensive Japanese Statistical Compendia is the Japan Statistical Yearbook published by the Statistics Bureau, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. The Yearbook covers many statistical fields, including land, population, economy, society, culture, and finance and by searching its index with keywords, you can find the statistics you need.
There are other examples such as the Statistical Yearbook of Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries, which cover certain statistical fields, and Tokyo Statistical Yearbook which covers statistics of a certain geographical area.
This search guide introduces some of the most comprehensive Japanese Statistical Compendia.
