主な内容: 英国国立公文書館（National Archives、旧Public Record Office）所蔵の外務省文書（FO: Records created and inherited by the Foreign Office）中の大使館・公使館・領事館文書（Records of Embassies, Legations, Consulates, etc）中のシリーズ FO 262 “Foreign Office and Foreign and Commonwealth Office: Embassy and Consulates, Japan: General Correspondence, 1859-1972” から1905-1940, 1945-1957年分を収録したもの。FO 262のシリーズには、第二世界大戦のため1939-1944年の文書はほとんどなく、このマイクロフィルム中にも1939-1940年については領事館文書が若干含まれているにすぎない。
