主な内容

以下の6種類のファイルから構成されている。

56-D-225 and 56-D-226: Miscellaneous Records relating to Japan and Korea, 1945-1953: 北東アジア部文書。
59-D-448: Records of the Mutual Security Program, East Asian Country Files, 1953-1953: 相互安全保障施策文書。ただし、A reference guide to United States Department of State Special Files / Gerald K. HainesではLot File 59-D-448は、Records of the Director, Military Assistance Coordination Division, 1953-1956となっており、いずれが正しいかは未確認。
65-D-324: Office of the Legal Advisor, East Asian Branch, Subject and Country Files, 1941-1962: 法律顧問室東アジア班　事項別・国別ファイル。
68-D-121: Bureau of Far Eastern Affairs, Office of East Asian Affairs, Records relating to North Korea, Japan, and the Republic of China, 1966 / 63-D-168, 65-D-235, 66-D-224, and 66-D-245: Bureau of Far Eastern Affairs, Office of East Asian Affairs, Central File, 1958-1963 / 66-D-225: Bureau of Far Eastern Affairs, Office of East Asian Affairs, Central File, 1947 [1954]-1964: 極東局東アジア部中央ファイル。対日講和、日本国憲法、琉球列島民政府指令・布令・布告（法文）、極東委員会、日米安保条約、朝鮮戦争米軍行方不明者・捕虜、中台関係などの文書、中華民国関係中央ファイル、日本関係中央ファイル、韓国関係中央ファイル、SEATO文書などを含む。

歴史: 国務省極東局（Bureau of Far Eastern Affairs）では、1947年以降、東アジアについては、中国を担当する中国部（Office of Chinese Affairs）、日本と韓国を担当する北東アジア部（Office of Northeast Asian Affairs）の2部体制がとられていたが、1961年12月26日両部が統合され、東アジア部（Office of East Asian Affairs）となった。同部には日本課、韓国課、中華民国課、中国本土課が置かれた（Foreign Relations of the United States, 1961-1963 volume XXII, p. 167 note 1）。
